How to Calculate Required Head for Pump
How to Calculate Required Head for Pump
Total head is calculated as the sum of vertical lift height and friction loss. Vertical lift includes the depth to water level plus the height to the discharge point. Friction loss depends on pipe diameter, length, and number of bends. Typically, add 10-20% to account for friction losses. For example, if the well is 50m deep and the tank is 10m high with 40m horizontal distance, the rated head is approximately 50+10+4 = 64 meters.
